LIVE: Polling underway for 2nd phase of Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand

11:10 am: About 16.32 per cent turnout was recorded in the first two hours in 20 Jharkhand Assembly constituencies across seven Maoist-hit districts where polling is underway in the second phase.

11:00 am: Moderate polling recorded in the nine constituencies of the Kashmir Valley which went to polls in the second of the five-phase Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

10:01 am: Polling started at 8 am and will end at 4 pm.

09:45 am: The voter turnout seems to be low in the morning hours in north Kashmir Kupwara district.

9:00 am: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday "strongly" urged the voters in Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir to vote in large numbers in the second of the five-phase elections."As the phase 2 of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand commence, I strongly urge people voting in those areas to vote in large numbers," the prime minister said in a tweet.

Second phase assembly elections: Brisk polling recorded in Jharkhand, moderate in Jammu and Kashmir

Moderate polling was recorded in the nine constituencies of the Kashmir Valley that  went to polls for the second phase of the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. Nearly 5 percent voter turnout was recorded in the first one hour. Polling was by and large peaceful.

Voting for the second phase of elections in 18 seats in Jammu and Kashmir and 20 spread across seven Maoist-hit tribal districts of Jharkhand began on Tuesday morning, amid tight security. Nearly five percent voter turn out was recorded in the first one hour. Polling was by and large peaceful.

Serpentine queues could be seen at many polling stations as voters waited for their turn.

According to official figures, Lolab Assembly segment recorded the highest turnout of 10.5 per cent in the first hour of polling.

Kulgam Assembly segment also recorded a good turnout of 5.14 percent during the corresponding period. Langet recorded 4.76 percent followed by Devsar at 4.43 percent and Handwara in north Kashmir Kupwar district at 4.02 percent.

Noorabad Assembly segment in south Kashmir Kulgam district recorded 3.6 percent, Home-Shalibugh had 1.9 percent of polling.
