Jammu and Kashmir eyes 10 percent growth in tourist arrivals this year

"Jammu and Kashmir consists of three regions – Jammu, the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh. We get pilgrims for Jammu, families and groups for Kashmir valley and youth for Ladakh. Tourism in the state is improving every year. This year, we have lined up many interesting activities for the tourists in the form of fairs, festivals, sports and adventure and expect 10 percent growth in arrivals," J-K Director Tourism and JKTDC Managing Director Farooq A Shah said.

    

Nearly 11 lakh travellers visited Jammu and Kashmir in 2014, of which only 50,000 were from foreign countries, he said.

    

"Domestic travellers are the backbone of the state's tourism and JKTDC aims to focus on strengthening this segment. Our focus will be on family and meetings, incentives, conferencing, exhibitions (MICE) segment as there is huge potential in both these areas," he said.

In India, Jammu and Kashmir's traditional market is from Gujarat, Maharashtra and West Bengal.

Kashmir plains witness season's first snowfall

An unusually-long dry spell with abnormally high day temperatures had been worrying farmers and the common man ever since the 40-day long 'Chillai Kalan' started here on December 21.

Perennial water reservoirs of Jammu and Kashmir are replenished by snowfall during the Chillai Kalan, but this season, there had been very little snowfall even in the mountains of the state so far.

People in Srinagar city and elsewhere in the Valley rose to welcome snowflakes on Thursday morning.

"Srinagar city received 0.3 mm snowfall in the morning. We are expecting another Western Disturbance (WD) on February 1 which would result in further precipitation in the state," said an official of the Met department here.

The minimum temperature was 0.2 degrees in Srinagar, minus 2.2 in Pahalgam, minus 8.6 in Gulmarg, minus 13.7 in Kargil and minus 12.2 in Leh on Thursday.

Omar attacks BJP over 'negotiations' with PDP, raises AFSPA

"So when I raised AFSPA I was accused of playing politics with Nat Sec (national security). BJP negotiates (government) formation with @jkpdp using AFSPA & that's OK??" Omar wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Omar also criticized Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for its "assertion" that a coalition with BJP is necessary for getting the special assistance of Rs 44,000 crore submitted by his government for the flood-affected people of the state.

"We are being told by the @jkpdp that the tie up with BJP is necessary for the 44,000 Crore flood relief. Shouldn't a state just get its due?" Omar said.

J&K's flood relief demand to be referred to a committee: Centre

"Some Members stated that the total special package asked by the state of Jammu and Kashmir is Rs 1 lakh crore. It is not the case. The state government has proposed a total fund of Rs 42,033.45 crore. As I said, this matter will be placed before the committee when all the reports are ready," Minister of state for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju informed the Lok Sabha.
   
He was replying to a debate in the Lower House on natural calamities in various parts of the country with special reference to rains and floods in Jammu and Kashmir, cyclone in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha and drought in Maharashtra.
   
"Let me inform the House again that it is not the effort of just the state government or the central government, it is the combined effort," Rijiju said.
   
He said never before in the history of independent India has the country witnessed a relief operation as it was done during recent floods in Jammu and Kashmir.

Second phase assembly elections: Brisk polling recorded in Jharkhand, moderate in Jammu and Kashmir

Moderate polling was recorded in the nine constituencies of the Kashmir Valley that  went to polls for the second phase of the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. Nearly 5 percent voter turnout was recorded in the first one hour. Polling was by and large peaceful.

Voting for the second phase of elections in 18 seats in Jammu and Kashmir and 20 spread across seven Maoist-hit tribal districts of Jharkhand began on Tuesday morning, amid tight security. Nearly five percent voter turn out was recorded in the first one hour. Polling was by and large peaceful.

Serpentine queues could be seen at many polling stations as voters waited for their turn.

According to official figures, Lolab Assembly segment recorded the highest turnout of 10.5 per cent in the first hour of polling.

Kulgam Assembly segment also recorded a good turnout of 5.14 percent during the corresponding period. Langet recorded 4.76 percent followed by Devsar at 4.43 percent and Handwara in north Kashmir Kupwar district at 4.02 percent.

Noorabad Assembly segment in south Kashmir Kulgam district recorded 3.6 percent, Home-Shalibugh had 1.9 percent of polling.

Pakistan Planning More Attacks at Border

जागरण न्यूज नेटवर्क, श्रीनगर। भारत-पाकिस्तान सीमा पर लगातार गोलीबारी के चलते माहौल तनावपूर्ण हुआ है। पिछले नौ दिनों से पाकिस्तान संघर्ष विराम संधि की धज्जियां उड़ा रहा है। वहीं, भारतीय सेना का कहना है कि पाकिस्तान की बॉर्डर एक्शन टीम सीमा पर और हमले की योजना बना रही है। इसके चलते दोनों देशों के बीच संघर्ष विराम संधि खतरे में पड़ गई है। बीएटी पाकिस्तानी सेना और आतंकियों से मिलकर बनी है।

इसी ने जनवरी में भारतीय सीमा में घुसकर दो जवानों का सर कलम कर दिया था और हाल में पुंछ सेक्टर में पांच जवानों की हत्या की। पाकिस्तान ने रविवार को भी पुंछ में नियंत्रण रेखा पर तोप, रॉकेट व मोर्टार का इस्तेमाल करते हुए भीषण गोलीबारी की। केरन सेक्टर में घुसपैठ का प्रयास कर रहे तीन आतंकियों को जवानों ने मार गिराया।

120, ब्रिगेड के कमांडर ए सेनगुप्ता ने पुंछ सेक्टर स्थित भिंभर गली में पत्रकारों को बताया, सूचना मिली है कि इस इलाके में पाकिस्तान की बॉर्डर एक्शन टीम हमले की योजना बना रही है। वे पुंछ में नियंत्रण रेखा पर हमले को अंजाम देने की कोशिश करेंगे। हालांकि, हम उसका सामना करने को तैयार हैं। सेनगुप्ता के अनुसार, पाकिस्तानी सैनिक संघर्ष विराम संधि का बिल्कुल सम्मान नहीं कर रहे हैं। वे घुसपैठ करवाने के लिए लगातार हम पर फायरिंग कर रहे हैं। पाकिस्तान ने एक जनवरी से अब तक 75 बार संघर्ष विराम का उल्लंघन किया। इसमें कारगिल क्षेत्र में 14 साल के बाद हुई गोलाबारी भी शामिल है।

अगस्त माह में पाकिस्तानी गोलीबारी के दौरान छह भारतीय सैनिक मारे जा चुके हैं और दस जवान घायल हुए हैं। कमांडर सेनगुप्ता ने कहा कि जवाबी कार्रवाई में हमने भी भारी हथियारों का इस्तेमाल करते हुए मुंहतोड़ जवाब दिया है।

ताजा जानकारी के अनुसार, पाकिस्तान ने पुंछ में नियंत्रण रेखा पर फिर शनिवार मध्यरात्रि को तीन घंटे और रविवार दोपहर को भारी गोलीबारी की। पाकिस्तानी सेना ने पुंछ के कृष्णा घाटी, बालाकोट व हमीरपुर में शनिवार रात बारह बजे भारतीय चौकियों पर बड़ी तोपों, रॉकेटों व मोर्टार से हमला किया। दोपहर दो बजे फिर पाकिस्तान की ओर से तोपों से हमला किया गया। दूसरी घटना में सेना ने कुपवाड़ा के केरन में घुसपैठ का प्रयास कर रहे तीन आतंकियों को मार गिराया। तीनों के शव नियंत्रण रेखा पर पाकिस्तानी सैनिकों की सीधी फायरिंग रेंज में पडे़ हैं। अधिकारियों ने घुसपैठियों के मारे जाने की पुष्टि की। केरन सेक्टर में एक सप्ताह में घुसपैठ का यह दूसरा प्रयास है। 14 अगस्त को इसी इलाके में जवानों ने घुसपैठ को नाकाम बनाते हुए चार घुसपैठियों को मार गिराया था। हंदवाड़ा के राजवार जंगल में हुई मुठभेड़ में बच निकले आतंकियों के खिलाफ सुरक्षाबलों ने सघन तलाशी अभियान चला रखा है। 

गंभीर गलती कर रहा पाकिस्तान: सेना

लगातार संघर्ष विराम संधि का उल्लंघन और पाकिस्तानी बॉर्डर एक्शन टीम के हमले के बाद पाकिस्तान को कड़ा संदेश देते हुए सेना की ओर से कहा गया है पाकिस्तान गंभीर गलती कर रहा है। समय आने पर पूरी ताकत के साथ मुंहतोड़ जवाब दिया जाएगा। राजौरी में सेना की 25 डिवीजन के जीओसी मेजर जनरल वीपी सिंह ने लगातार गोलीबारी और ताजे हमले की योजना पर पाकिस्तान को संबोधित करते हुए कहा, 'तुम गंभीर गलती कर रहे हो। यह मत करो। जो तुम कर रहे हो, उससे न हम प्रभावित होंगे, न ही हम कमजोर होंगे।' जनरल सिंह ने कहा कि हर हरकत का सही समय पर सही जवाब दिया जाएगा। सीमा पर अभी तोप खाना तैनात करने की स्थिति नहीं है। सीमा पर स्थिति गंभीर है, लेकिन सेना किसी भी स्थिति से निपटने के लिए तैयार है।

Pak Again Violates Ceasefire, Nighlong Firing in LOC

जम्मू,(राजौरी)। पाकिस्तानी सेना बार-बार संघर्ष विराम का उल्लंघन कर सीमा पर तनाव बढ़ाने से बाज नहीं आ रही है। पुंछ क्षेत्र में पांच भारतीय जवान की मौत पर मचे बवाल के बाद भी पाकिस्तान सुधरने का नाम नहीं ले रहा है। पुंछ जिले में शनिवार को सात हजार गोलियां दागने के बाद रविवार को फिर पाकिस्तान ने पुंछ की मेंढर तहसील के बालाकोट व मंकोट सेक्टर की एक दर्जन चौकियों पर जमकर गोलीबारी कर रॉकेट दागे।

इसके अलावा पाकिस्तान ने जम्मू के कानाचक सेक्टर में भी घंटों फायरिंग की, जिससे बीएसएफ का एक जवान घायल हो गया। भारत की जवाबी कार्रवाई के बाद पाकिस्तान शांत हुआ। वहीं, रात 11 बजे पाक ने फिर पुंछ के देगवार क्षेत्र में गोलाबारी की।

जानकारी के अनुसार, पाकिस्तान ने सुबह करीब साढ़े सात बजे अखनूर तहसील के कानाचक सेक्टर की अल्फा मचैल पोस्ट पर फायरिंग शुरू कर दी। इसमें बीएसएफ की 122 बटालियन का कांस्टेबल पवन कुमार पुत्र मुल्ख राज निवासी अरनिया घायल हो गया। दोपहर करीब साढ़े तीन बजे तक हुई गोलीबारी का भारत ने भी जवाब दिया। इस बीच,घायल जवान पवन कुमार को इलाज के लिए पहले जम्मू मेडिकल कॉलेज अस्पताल में भर्ती करवाया गया। बाद में उसकी गंभीर हालत को देखते हुए एम्स दिल्ली रेफर कर दिया गया।

कुछ दिनों पहले सांबा जिले के रामगढ़ सेक्टर में पाक गोलीबारी में घायल जवान रामविलास मीना ने एम्स दिल्ली में उपचार के दौरान दम तोड़ दिया। उधर, मेंढर के बालाकोट व मंकोट सेक्टर की एक दर्जन चौकियों पर पाक सेना ने सुबह 11 बजे से लेकर दो बजे तक जमकर गोलीबारी की। इस गोलीबारी की आड़ में पाक सेना ने घुसपैठ कराने का प्रयास किया, जिसे भारत ने नाकाम बना दिया।

इस प्रकार से सांप्रदायिक हिंसा के चलते किश्तवाड़ के साथ जम्मू, राजौरी, ऊधमपुर, सांबा, कठुआ, रियासी और डोडा भी क‌र्फ्यू की चपेट में आ गए हैं। हिंसाग्रस्त किश्तवाड़ का दौरा करने के लिए हवाई जहाज से जम्मू पहुंचे वरिष्ठ भाजपा नेता अरुण जेटली को एयरपोर्ट पर ही रोक लिया गया और उन्हें दिल्ली जाने वाले विमान में बैठाकर वापस भेज दिया गया। जबकि भाजपा सांसद अविनाश राय खन्ना को ढाई सौ लोगों के साथ जम्मू में प्रवेश करते ही हिरासत में लेकर वापस पंजाब लौटा दिया गया।

Pak Attack: Martyrs family Asks for Justice

नई दिल्ली। पाकिस्तानी सेना की ओर से भारतीय सीमा पर किए गए हमले में मारे गए शहीदों के शव बुधवार को उनके घर भेजे जाएंगे। इधर, शहीदों के परिजनों ने पाक के खिलाफ कड़ी कार्रवाई की मांग की है। जवानों की अंतिम यात्रा मंगलवार शाम पुंछ से शुरू हुई। सेना के अधिकारियों ने शहीद जवानों के पार्थिव शरीर पर माल्यार्पण किया उसके बाद उनकी अंतिम यात्रा शुरू हुई। खबर है कि आज सेना प्रमुख बिक्रम सिंह पुंछ का दौरा करेंगे। सुबह 10 बजे वह वहां पहुंच जाएंगे।

इस बीच, बिहार के मुख्यमंत्री नीतिश कुमार ने हमले में शहीद हुए बिहार के जवानों के परिवार को आर्थिक मदद देने का ऐलान किया है।
