IED found from naxal-hit area in Chhattisgarh


The explosives, packed in a steel container was placed beneath the land near a tree on Bijepar-Jhadikhairi village road that passes through restive forests under Chhuriya police station limits, Rajnandgaon Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Shukla said.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and district force was on Thursday dispatched on an anti-naxal operation towards Jhadikhairi village, around 150 kms away from here, he said.

Ahead of Jhadikhairi, security forces spotted the IED and was immediately destroyed by the bomb disposal squad, averting a major mishap, Shukla said, adding, it was planted by rebels to target security personnel during their operation.

Responsibility will be fixed for dumping of martyrs' belongings: Rajnath

"My sentiments were also hurt. I told the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister (Raman Singh) that he should order an inquiry and fix responsibility for the incident.
   
"He called me back to say that a magisterial probe has been ordered," Home Minister Rajnath Singh said.

While the postmortem of 14 deceased CRPF personnel was going in a government hospital, their blood-stained uniforms and shoes were dumped in dustbin, sparking outrage.
   
Earlier, Tamradhwaj Sahu and K C Venugopal, both of Congress, expressed concern over the incident.
   
Sahu said it was an "insult to their martyrdom" and demanded explanation from the government.

President condemns attack on CRPF troopers

In his message to Chhattisgarh Governor Balramji Das Tandon, the president said, "I am shocked and dismayed to learn about the tragic attack by left wing extremists on security personnel in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Monday in which a number of persons belonging to the CRPF have lost their lives and suffered injuries."

"I condemn this act of violence on our security forces in the strongest of terms and call upon authorities concerned to spare no efforts in bringing the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible," he added.

Offering heartfelt condolences to the grieving families of the victims, Mukherjee said, "I call upon the state government and other agencies to provide all possible aid to the bereaved families who have lost their near and dear ones as well as medical assistance to the injured, whom I wish speedy recovery.

"Maoists on Monday gunned down 13 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers engaged in an operation aimed at flushing out the rebels from a thickly forested area of Chhattisgarh.
